As Mel started to pick up the cloth, Gabriela's stomach growled loudly. "And while you're at it, bring me some food," she said, her voice now tinged with hunger.
Mel nodded quickly, eager to please her employer. She hurried to the kitchen, her mind racing with anxiety. She knew that any mistake she made would only anger Gabriela further.
When she returned with the food, Gabriela was sitting up straight, her eyes closed, probably mediating or visualizing her next scene. Mel placed the food in front of her, trembling slightly as she did so.
"Now get out of here," Gabriela snapped, opening her eyes and turning to look at Mel. "I need some peace and quiet to prepare for my next role."
Mel nodded again, feeling a mix of relief and terror. She backed out of the room, closing the door behind her, trying to suppress the tears that threatened to spill from her eyes.
As she walked down the hallway, she couldn't help but wonder what else Gabriela would do to her if she made another mistake. The thought terrified her, but she knew she had to keep going, to keep trying to please her employer, no matter how difficult it might be.
