The afternoon was winding down at the office, and Lily couldn't wait to get home. Her shift had been particularly exhausting, and she yearned for the comforts of her own couch and a warm meal. As she made her way towards the restroom, she noticed an unusual scent lingering in the air.
Her nose twitched as she pushed open the door, instantly recognizing the unmistakable odor of flatulence. The room was empty, but the stench was overwhelming. With a puzzled look on her face, she stepped inside to investigate.
The room was immaculate - no doubt thanks to the cleaning crew - but the stinky aroma lingered stubbornly. She moved closer to the stalls, hoping to pinpoint the source, when suddenly she heard a soft giggle from within one of the cubicles.
Her curiosity piqued, she pushed open the door to reveal a woman she didn't recognize, her face flushed with embarrassment. The woman looked up at her with wide eyes, clearly caught red-handed.
"Oh my god," Lily sputtered, trying to stifle a laugh. "Did you just...?" She trailed off, gesturing towards the offending odor.
"Sorry," the woman mumbled, her cheeks still bright red. "I'm new here, and I really had to go."
Lily couldn't help but grin. "You should probably get out of here before anyone else comes in," she said, trying to sound stern but failing miserably.
The woman hurriedly flushed the toilet and washed her hands, emerging from the stall a few moments later. She met Lily's amused gaze in the mirror and shrugged sheepishly.
"Guess I'll be leaving now," she said, grabbing her purse.
As she turned to go, Lily couldn't help but chuckle. "Welcome to the office, by the way," she called after her, already halfway out the door.
Walking back to her desk, Lily couldn't shake the image of the embarrassed woman and her stinky surprise. She glanced at the clock, calculating how long it would take her to get home, and couldn't wait to share the story with her partner over dinner.
